Music director, Ralph Headstrom, observes from afar as Felicia sobs next to the broken piano. She remains unaware of his entrance as he fights for the courage to approach her. We learn that it was love at first sight for the shy young director. When Ralph finally reaches Felicia, she pours her heart out and we find out why she is so sad. Tired of being a sex object, she has big dreams and longs to be taken seriously. (The sets are constantly shifting in this scene to create a romantic backdrop for a blossoming romance.) The two lovers almost kiss…but are interrupted by Terry’s entrance.
